East Midlands Councils Housing CPD Programme

EMC is launching a low cost CPD programme for Housing, the first event in the programme will be held on 27 September 2017. A number of authorities have already signed up to this programme.

Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 Event, 27 September 2017

The inaugural event in the EMC low cost CPD programme for Housing will focus on the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The new Homelessness Reduction Act will place new legal duties on councils so that everyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness will have access to meaningful help, irrespective of their priority need status, as long as they are eligible for assistance.

Working with expert Housing colleagues from across the East Midlands, EMC is developing a practical CPD event that will support the development of knowledge on the changes in the Homelessness Reduction Act, including what is included in the Act and what it means for local authorities. The event will include practical workshops that will provide innovative examples of what local authorities are already doing to reduce and prevent homelessness.

Duty to Assess all Eligible Applicants’ Cases and Agree a Plan - Practical workshops providing delegate with the opportunity to explore and develop plans to address duty placed upon them.

East Midlands Councils Housing CPD Programme

In June 2016 EMC published the ‘East Midlands Housing Review: Building our Future’, a comprehensive piece of research into the state of housing in the East Midlands.   Building on this research, EMC are developing a programme to support on-going professional development for Housing officers, providing an opportunity for officers to keep abreast of national policy developments, as well as learn from projects across the country.

In September 2017, EMC will launch this programme of low cost Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for local authority housing officers and other housing professionals. This is an exciting addition to our extremely popular suite of subscription based CPD programmes. EMC already support two programmes of continuing professional development, an Environmental Health CPD programme launched in 2008 and a Planners programme launched 2011. To date over 9,000 delegates have attended across the two programmes. For more information on the programme visit here.

The Housing CPD programme will be designed to mirror the low cost model offered by the Planning and Environmental Health programmes, which offer each local authority:

  • 6 seminars a year, with 18 places allocated to officers across the programme.
  • At least 100 hours of development.
  • A cost saving of over £2,500.

Working with Housing professionals from across the East Midlands, EMC will develop a programme of events. A number of themes have been identified, but EMC are looking to work with a steering group of interested officers to develop the programme and content, if your authority is interested in being part of a steering group please contact Themes identified for the programme include;

  • Housing White Paper - Where next?
  • Homelessness Reduction Act
  • Housing and Health
  • Local Housing Companies
