Rural Network East Midlands (RNEM) is part of DEFRA’s national Rural and Farming Network. It covers the whole of the East Midlands and has replaced the East Midlands Rural Affairs Forum which ceased to exist as from the end of March 2012. Covering Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire the network of stakeholders have broad interests covering all aspects of rural life. A growing body of organisations and individuals are getting involved to ensure that rural areas thrive in terms of their economy, access to services, the environment, affordable housing, farming and related issues around food, climate change and skills and employment.
RNEM Annual Conference 20 November 2014
Rural Network East Midlands (RNEM) held its Annual Conference at Scalford Hall, in Melton Mowbray, on 20th November 2014 between 10am – 12.45pm.
The event focused on two key themes:
- Meeting the housing needs of rural communities, led by Jo Lavis, Secretary to the independent Rural Housing Policy Review; and
- Rural Proofing national and local policy and Defra's Rural Proofing Review, led by Stephen Hall, Head of Rural Statistics at Defra.
Table discussions around both topics will help shape RNEM’s future priorities and work programme.
The event was attended by members and officers involved in rural policy making and influencing and/or working with rural communities, as well as a wide range of RNEM’s partner organisations who are involved in shaping the rural agenda.
