Policy Update Event for Councillors

East Midlands Councils is holding its annual Policy Update Event for Councillors in the East Midlands on Friday 3 November 2017. Covering the latest information from policy experts predominantly relating to Planning and Housing there will also be an opportunity to hear from Professor Colin Copus and Rachel Wall (DeMontfort University) on the national “Hearing the Voice of the Councillor” project.

Who should attend?

Councillors wishing to be up to date with the latest policy developments in housing and planning. 

Places are limited to 40 so early booking is recommended.

Housing

John Conway, Head of Housing, Kettering Borough Council will explore developments in housing policy and the key challenges facing local authorities. 

Jim Crawshaw, Homelessness Advice and Support Team, DCLG will provide an overview of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and what this means for Local Authorities

Hearing the Voice of the Councillor

Professor Colin Copus, and Rachel Wall, De Montfort University

Published in July 2017, the Voice of the Councillor report sets out what councillors themselves have told us about their work and about the changes needed to our local democracy. ‘The Voice of the Councillor’ is the start of a debate that will lead to real and positive change for councillors, communities and citizens alike. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the report authors 

Planning

Andrew Pritchard, Director of Policy & Infrastructure at East Midlands Councils will deliver an overview of the latest developments in planning and the key future considerations. 

Laura-Beth Hutton, Senior Associate, Eversheds Sutherland will present an overview of the law relating to Neighbourhood Planning. 

Cllr Roger Upton, Chairman of Radcliffe on Trent Neighbourhood Plan Steering Committee will present the process and lessons learnt regarding the Radcliffe on Trent neighbourhood plan.
