Taking your Training Remote - How to deliver excellent training remotely

Please note that this course is now fully booked.  If you are interested in attending a future course please contact Kirsty.Lowe@emcouncils.gov.uk

With so many people still working remotely, are you facing the challenge of delivering your training online instead of face to face?

EMC is offering a regional programme of 'Taking your Training Remote', which will help you learn how to deliver online workshops that are interactive, fun and highly effective. The programme covers both the technical and training design dimensions:

This programme is split into two workshops, each 2.5 hours long, delivered over Zoom.

  • Workshop 1 is focused on tools and technology,
  • Workshop 2 is focused on “translating” your training so it works well remotely.

Both workshops are highly interactive and practical, so you’ll go away with real learnings you can put into practice right away.

Workshop 1: The tools and technology you need in order to run effective remote workshops - and how to use it (9 October 2020).

You will learn:

  • The technology you need in order to keep people engaged
  • How to minimise participant technical issues (there's nothing worse than half your participants not being able to connect...)
  • How to use break-out rooms to help people engage and connect
  • How to replace the flip-chart and post-its on the wall
  • How to make sure the participants have a good experience of your remote communication
  • How to have the best possible chance to "read the room" remotely.

Of course this is a remote workshop – so you’ll see:

  • How the technology can be used to good effect
  • Demonstrations of several exercises translated to a remote context.

Workshop 2: How to make your specific training work well in a remote setting (13 October 2020).

You will learn:

  • How to design your training so it works well online
  • How to translate your specific training exercises and make them work well remotely ? How you need to interact differently as a facilitator
  • How to maintain energy and keep energy levels up in a group
  • How to maintain engagement and make remote online training enjoyable and interactive for the participants (so they say things like "it was like 95% of being in the same room together”).
  • Receive input on specific issues you face when taking your particular training remote - your questions answered.

 The outcomes:

  • Both workshops are highly interactive and practical, so you’ll go away with real learnings you can put into practice right away.
  • Building on your training experience, you will learn the skills for delivering engaging remote training and maintaining energy and engagement with your delegates.
  • You will discover that a surprising proportion of the materials you use in face-to-face training can be adapted for remote delivery.
  • You will gain confidence in your Taking your Training Remote.
  • In remote training, some technical challenges inevitably arise. You will see how Roy handles them with patience and humour, whilst maintaining the engagement of the group.
  • The whole experience of attending the workshop is a lesson in delivering remotely. It starts with the joining instructions and pre work, proceeds with covering the topic while tailoring the training to address the most important issues participants bring, and goes right through to finishing on time and providing follow up and post session information.

Please note:  To attend both these workshops you’ll need a laptop or desktop computer - PC or Mac. (Tablets, Phones and Chromebooks have somewhat restricted access to these facilities – they aren’t suitable for hosting training, or for fully attending this workshop).
