UASC Leaving Care - What's next?

East Midlands Councils is holding a one day training event on what's next for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) when leaving care. The event will be facilitated by JMS Training Solutions

This practical training event will provide an understanding of the process of leaving care for an Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Child, including the Triple Planning Process, familiarise attendees with the relevant guidance in relation to UASC leaving care, provide advice and guidance on what to do next when a young person has been granted status and enable workers to work on reducing the number of young people becoming Appeals Rights Exhausted.

Content of the day

 The session will cover:

  • Developing an understanding of the Triple Planning Process and how this differs to the resident Looked after Children population.
  • Develop understanding of the Immigration process and what this means for former relevant UASC.
  • Provide good practice advice and guidance for those working with former relevant UASC to reduce the number of young people becoming Appeals Rights Exhausted.
  • How to support young people who have been granted status – what next?

Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

Who should attend?

The training is aimed at local authority Children’s Services Social Workers, Personal Advisors and other professionals involved in the leaving care process. 

The Trainer:

Jo Schofield - JMS Training Solutions. Jo is a qualified and registered social worker with 12 years experiences of working with frontline social care teams. She has developed her specialism working with unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) and held the position as regional lead for the East of England, providing strategic support and professional advice at both local and central government level.

Jo is passionate about improving social work practice and developing practitioner’s confidence in undertaking specialist assessments. She is proud to call herself a social worker and strives to improve standards of practice throughout her work.
