East Midlands Rail Summit

The East Midlands Rail Summit, organised by East Midlands Councils will explore the future of rail in the East Midlands.  The event is to be chaired by Pete Waterman, rail enthusiast and member of the HS2 Growth Task Force.  The event will be an opportunity for key decision makers from the region to discuss the importance of rail to the regional and local economy and to raise the profile at a national level.  The event will look to make the case for greater rail investment into the East Midlands.

Contributors to the conference will come from across Government, business and the rail industry.  Confirmed contributors include;

  • HS2 in the East Midlands: How good could it be?
  • Rail as an Engine of Economic Growth

The confirmed programme for this event will be available in September and further details of contributors will follow.


The event will

  • raise the profile of rail and its importance to the regional and local economy
  • push the case for greater rail investment into the East Midlands
  • bring together key decisions makers from the region, including MPs, council leaders, the business and the wider rail sector
  • provide a forum to discuss the delivery of HS2 in the East Midlands
  • provide delegates with the opportunity to highlight future investment priorities for the region’s classic rail network.
