East Midlands WARP Cyber Incident Response Day

EMC and the Cyber Security Network known as the EMGWARP are offering network members with the opportunity to join a free workshop on Cyber Incident Response.

The aim of the day will be to provide the participants in EMGWARP with the knowledge and skills to enhance Cyber-Resilience in their own organisations through development of Cyber Security Incident Response Plans (CSIRPs).

With a strong focus on “enabling” the format of the workshop will be based around presentation, exercises, discussion and the use of case study examples. It will include the following;

  • Incident definition, detection and response
  • Incident Containment, damage limitation, recovery and assessment
  • Requirements of a CSIRP
  • Procedural and technical best practice
  • Relationships between Cyber-Incidents, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
  • Discussion and learning from real cyber incidents
  • The significance and role of 3rd parties in effective cyber-response
  • Overview of Quantitative measures (e.g. Maximum Allowable Outage and recovery time objectives)
  • Cyber-Incident Prevention
  • Incident Response Standards and Maturity Models
  • Sharing of cyber-incident response experience and concerns

Through discussion, presentation and group exercises the following outcomes will be achieved;

  • Provide an awareness of cyber incidents that have occurred in the LG sector and their consequences
  • Identification of the gaps in knowledge of how to respond to a cyber incident
  • Collectively provide answers to the identified gaps in knowledge
  • Understand how to identify an incident
  • Appreciate the key stages of incident handling
  • Identification of the key aims of incident response
  • know how other WARP Members will respond to a cyber incident
  • Develop your understanding of how you and your organisation can respond to a cyber incident
  • Examination of current specific threats that could result in a cyber incident
  • Identify forms of Cyber incident prevention
  • Placing cyber incident response in context to other forms of incident response, disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Being aware of appropriate standards that may be utilised in cyber incident response planning
  • Reaching a consensus on a common baseline whilst retaining flexibility for specific local requirements
  • To facilitate future sharing / collaborative development around Cyber Incident Response Plans (CIRPs)
