Low Cost CPD Programmes

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programmes East Midlands Councils offers an extremely popular lowcost Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for both planners and environmental health officers.

Environmental Health

East Midlands Councils (EMC), offers a programme of 6 low cost CPD knowledge based seminars for local authority Environmental Health officers. 

East Midlands Councils, Public Health England and a Focus Group of representatives from each County area are arranging 6 low cost CPD knowledge based seminars for all local authority regulatory employees.  The 2020/21 seminar topics have been chosen by each of the county Chief Environmental Health Officers Groups. These topics will change each year to reflect the diverse nature of environmental health.

Programme of events April 2020-March 2021 

All the seminars are currently being held virtually due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

23 April 2020 - Environmental Protection, this event was postponed.

18 June 2020 - Legal/Licensing, this event was postponed.

1 October 2020 - The Leicester Lockdown Experience (10.00am-11.30am) - MS Teams

Govind Mandora and Dave Howard from Leicester City Council will be sharing their experience of the Leicester Lockdown and issuing directives under the new No3 Regs.

6 October 2020 - Enforcement and Regulation Conference (1.30pm-4.30pm) MS Teams

This event has been organised by DHSC with EMC assisting with the admin.  There will be the opportunity to hear from a range of local and national agencies about changes to enforcement policies due to COVID-19.  There will also be the opportunity to hear lessoned learnt from a number of case study presentations. Although this event is open to all authorities whether they have signed up to the programme or not, CPD certificates will be issued to subscribing authority delegates.  

12 November 2020 - Allergens (10.00am-12 noon) - MS Teams

AllergyUK will be looking at the clinic nature and repines of the body to an allergen and raising awareness and training in the catering industry.

10 December 2020 - Housing - highly likely this will be virtual

25 February 2021 - Health and Safety

 

A subscription based programme of support for Environmental Health Officers

  • EMC Local Authority Members pay £575+VAT per year.
  • 18 seminar places per year per authority (3 places per seminar).
  • A minimum of 5 hours CPD per seminar.
  • Free student places for local authorities signed up - 5 per session (1 from each county area)

Cost for Non-EMC Member Organisations

£575 + VAT per organisation per year for 6 seminar places pa
£1150 + VAT per organisation per year for 12 seminar places pa
£1725 + VAT per organisation per year for 18 seminar places pa
Individuals/sole traders can pay £100 + VAT per session or sign up to all 6 sessions for £200+VAT.

Housing CPD Programme

A programme of continuous development for local authority and Housing Association professionals, designed to be low cost

East Midlands Councils is launching a programme of Continuing Professional Development, through 6 knowledge based seminars for local authorities and Housing Associations in the East Midlands. The programme will tackle issues of relevance to local authorities and Housing Associations and all the seminars will be held in Melton Mowbray.

Costs

  • The cost to local authority members of EMC will be £575+VAT per participating organisation per year.
  • For this fee, participating organisations can have 18 course places per year (3* places per seminar). 

Each seminar of the programme will recognise the completion of a minimum of 6 hours CPD.

  • The 2019/20 seminar topics have been developed in conjunction with Heads of Housing within local authorities in the East Midlands and recognises the diverse and wide ranging needs of local authorities in relation to Housing. These topics will change in future years to reflect the diverse nature of planning.
  • Additional places at events can be purchased (£50 per person where organisation already subscribes to the programme, £175 per person for organisations that do not subscribe).

  • At least 18 officers attending the 6 seminars
  • At least 90 hours of development.
  • A cost saving of over £2000.

Programme Development

Working with Housing professionals from across the East Midlands, EMC will develop a programme of events which will draw on housing expertise both inside the East Midlands and beyond.

How do you register delegates?

The closing date for delegate registration is approximately 1 week prior to each seminar.

* If a seminar is undersubscribed, extra places will be offered to authorities after the closing date.

Programme of events April 2020-March 2021

Details of our 2020-2021 programme of seminars is included below, during 2020 we have transitioned our programme of events to a virtual environment.

  • 21 May 2020 – Local Plans - This event was postponed.
  • 2 July 2020 – Planning & Health Part One -This event took place as a webinar.
  • 9 July 2020 – Planning & Health Part Two - This event took place as a webinar.
  • 8 October 2020 – Natural Assets/Natural Capital (2pm-3.30pm) - A Virtual event.
  • 26 November 2020 – Planning for Growth - This will be a virtual seminar for approx 1.5 hours.  Timings to be confirmed shortly.
  • 4 February 2021 – Planning Law inc Enforcement
  • 11 March 2021 - Ecology
