Solicitor – Immigration (Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children and Refugees)

East Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership (EMSMP)

Grade J – £44,632 (annual pay increase pending) 37 hours

Fixed Term – 12 months (potential extension subject to funding) 

Secondment Considered

This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and support to East Midlands’ local authority legal advisers and social workers in their management of Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC), care leaver and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) casework. Representation on casework is specifically excluded.

Qualified as an admitted solicitor/barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, the ideal person will have detailed knowledge of Law relevant to age assessments of unaccompanied asylum seekers, NRPF and human rights legislation, and preferably knowledge of recent developments in central government policy on asylum seekers, refugees and migration issues. You will also have experience of working within a local authority, partner regional agency or equivalent organisation, including responsibility for policy development, advocacy and partnership working. Additionally, you will have the ability to provide training to external stakeholders, to build relationships across the partnerships, to manage conflicting priorities, and to meet demanding deadlines.
