OPUN Training & Design Support Services for EMC Members

Opun is design:east midlands and as part of the Design Network runs the Regional Design Review Panel, supported by RIBA, RTPI, RICS, LI, EMC, the HCA, ATLAS, English Heritage and others. Opun is the lead architecture centre nationally on the refresh of Building for Life12. Using a collaborative approach with developers, design teams and local authorities, Opun independently support design-led discussions between developers, planning teams and communities to achieve high quality uplift in the built environment.

Working with EMC, Opun is continuing to offer a subscription package to local authorities that are EMC members. The cost starts at £3,600 + VAT but can be individually tailored to meet need. Subscribed support has been used by several local authorities that need capacity and advice within their planning teams notably on urban design in relation to design codes, masterplanning, community engagement as well as landscape architecture, SUDs, highways, conservation and materials advice etc.

Opun offers training within that package for planning officers and Elected Members in being better prepared to hold discussions on urban design, design viability, layout and highway issues etc.

Design Review continues to a key service run by Opun. Our multi-disciplinary panel of experts is managed by Dharmista Patel MRTPI, and Chaired by Chris Twomey RIBA. Design Review is generally at no cost to the local authority. If a local authority wish to undertake a Design Review, it is at a preferential rate through the subscription model.

Building for Life (BFL) 12 has been endorsed as the industry standard in meeting decent standards in housing layout. Opun is proud to have pioneered BFL working with Nottingham Trent University. Opun offers training, or collaborative exercises with developers to ensure emerging housing layouts will achieve a Built for Life quality mark.
