"How to define success for yourself - and achieve it"!

With the busy-ness of life we don't often get the chance to think about what success means to us personally and professionally; or to understand why we achieve some of the things we want to achieve but not others. This session is an opportunity to explore what it means to you to be successful and fulfilled. You'll also gain an understanding of the 'psychology' behind goal setting; how to set goals you'll achieve and how to quieten some of that negative thinking that gets in the way.

Why should you go?

  • Learn from experts who understand your role
  • Develop your administrative skills and knowledge
  • Gain invaluable insights from your peers
  • Develop new friends and contacts
  • Have fun, learn something new and invigorate yourself

Conference Contributors

Sharon Severn

Sharon began her career in 1974 as a Shorthand Typist for Barclays Bank International Limited in Nottingham. She went on to work for Rolls-Royce plc for 15 years covering a range of Secretary and PA roles across the business.

After leaving Rolls-Royce, Sharon became a Virtual Assistant and Trainer and worked as Branch Administrator for the Institute of Directors, Cambridgeshire Branch.

In September 2017, she facilitated a workshop on the Introduction to Six Sigma at the APC Conference in Las Vegas.

Sharon says “The secretarial role has changed beyond recognition over the past 20 years and interestingly, the basic skills of the secretarial role are still essential. Key attributes which are used daily include IT and Technical skills, Time Management, Communication and Influencing skills. These skills need to be applied constantly and assertively. I am very passionate about improvements and sharing best practice and knowledge. This aids in continuing professional development which is very beneficial to the support population and the journey to world-class.

I am a firm believer in Process Improvements and attained my Green Belt in Six Sigma in 2008. The subject of my Green Belt is “Creating Excellence” which was based around behaviour, attitude and raising the professional standard of Secretaries. I have been sharing my improvement initiatives over the past 10 years with like-minded Secretaries, PA’s and EA’s”.
