Have we got the Energy? Understanding the decisions that will shape our energy future

EMC is hosting a focused session for senior officers and councillors to provide a timely overview of the national and regional energy policy to support your planning, strategy and place-based work.
This session will offer practical insight to support councillors to effectively scrutinise major infrastructure and planning decisions, by providing a clear, non-technical introduction to energy systems, markets, national policy and regional energy strategic planning.
Key topics include:
- How energy systems and markets operate
- National policy, regulation and key players
- Regional Energy Strategic Planning and the T RESP process
- Grid connectivity and future investment plans
- DNO roles and responsibilities
- Community energy opportunities
- Local authority responsibilities
The event will take place on Thursday, 19 March 2026, from 10 am – 1 pm, followed by lunch and an opportunity for networking.
Registration will begin at 9:30 am.
Attendance is free for officers and councillors across the region.
Non-members will be charged our standard half-day rate of £170+VAT.
