Audience:

Following our induction “hitting the ground running” session in July 2025, we continue to support newly elected members in their role(s), one year on.

Purpose

This virtual workshop aims to continue the opportunity for more newly elected members to reflect on their first year, understand the forthcoming local government landscape, attend brief skills taster workshops whilst networking with other members.

Content and Approach

The workshop will include:

• Reflection on your First Year as a Councillor – Discussion in small groups
• Devolution and LGR landscape in the East Midlands including insights on the process and member role – Presentations
• Bitesize Taster Workshops on Member/Officer Relations and Effective Community Leadership– Practical Discussion
• Member Learning and Development available from East Midlands Councils and the LGA – Information

This is an informal, interactive session where you will benefit from the learning, the opportunity to ask questions and making new connections with both councillors and officers.

Workshop Chair and Facilitators

This session will be chaired by Cllr Elly Cutkelvin, Deputy City Mayor, Leicester City Council and Vice Chair of EMC, accompanied by Officers and Councillors from EMC and the LGA.
