Workshop aimed at:
Local Authority social workers who are tasked with undertaking case law compliant age assessments.
Outcomes:
Build confidence and capacity in undertaking age assessments.
Course Content:
The two day course consists of the following programme:
Day 1: Introduction to Age Assessment & Case Law
Understand the background and context of age assessments, as well as case law & best practice guidance.
Day 2: Preparing and conducting a case law compliant age assessment
How to prepare, undertake and write-up a case law compliant age assessment
Course Structure:
Day 1 Provides a broad introduction to age assessments and working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, including an overview of age assessment case law in the afternoon. This is broken up with interactive exercises, including quizzes and group work.
Day 2 Focuses on how to apply case law into practice and covers every step of how to undertake an age assessment, from preparation and organisation of assessments through to the decision meeting, and everything in-between. Attendees have the opportunity to apply this into practice through exploring two case studies.
Please arrive at Pera Reception (not EMC offices). Mid morning refreshments will be provided. Please either bring your own lunch or you can purchase from the onsite café.

Course Facilitator:
Andrew Martin is a qualified social worker with almost twenty years of social and community work experience, primarily with refugees and asylum-seekers.
