Chief Officer JNC Pay Claim 2021

On 31st March 2021, the National Employers received a pay claim for Chief Officers which seeks:

  • A substantial increase on all salaries and relevant allowances
We note the claim for a substantial increase with a minimum of 10% on all spinal column points made by the Staff Side of the NJC for Local Government Services, and we expect parity of treatment for all local government employees.

A copy of the claim can be accessed here

The National Employers will consider this claim and respond formally to the unions in due course.

Conditions of Service Handbook for Local Authority Chief Officers

The LGA are pleased to inform you that the 'Conditions of Service Handbook for local authority Chief Officers' has now been updated from the existing 2004 version.  The latest 2017 version can be found here.

The updated handbook now includes:

  • Updated information on setting remuneration levels
  • Updated information on discipline, capability and redundancy relating to Monitoring Officers, s151 Officers and, in Wales, Heads of Democratic Services
  • New Joint guidance on Appraisal of the Chief Officer

The handbook will be available online only. All employees with an email address ending ".gov.uk" can freely access and download the document on the LGA’s website (you may need to register your details in the first instance).  By making the handbook available online the LGA can ensure that all future updates can be made quickly so that you will have the confidence of knowing that you have the most up to date version.

Chief Officer Pay Claim 2020

The Chief Officer Pay Claim has been lodged by GMB and UNISON in respect of local authority Chief Officers. The National Employers will be meeting next Tues 21 Jan 2020. The LGA fully expect them to defer responding to this claim (as they have already decided to do in respect of the Chf Execs’ and Craftworkers’ claims) until the main NJC negotiations have been settled.  A copy of the claim dated 15th Jan 2020 can be found here.
