Following our first “hitting the ground running” session in July last year, we continue to support Newly Elected members in their role(s), one year on.

Content and Approach

This workshop aims to continue supporting newly elected members with their learning journey through networking, reflection, information updates and taster skills sessions all included.

The workshop will include:

• Reflection on your First Year as a Councillor – Discussion
• Insights into the Challenges and Opportunities for Local Government – Presentation
• Levelling up and Missions Impossible in the East Midlands – Presentation
• Bitesize Taster Workshops on Member/Officer Relations, Communicating with the Community and Handling Difficult Conversations – Practical Discussion
• LGA Local Leadership Framework for Councillors and East Midlands Councils Councillor Development Support – Information

This is an informal, interactive session where you will benefit from the learning, the opportunity to ask questions and making new connections with both councillors and officers.

Workshop Chair and Facilitators

The workshop will be facilitated by Councillors in the East Midlands, EMC Officers and LGA Member Lead Peers and Officers.

A light buffet lunch will be provided at 12.30 pm
