Reading for Speed and Retention
Introduction
This programme has been developed to assist those who want to learn reading strategies which enable them to gain an overview of a complex document at speed, as well as developing a process for forensic reading.
Delivered virtually, programme highlights will include:
- Understanding the process of reading
- How to minimise barriers to reading and retention
- Using different reading styles
- Maximising eye/brain relationship
- Reading from computer and tablet screens
- Reading for understanding, detail and retention.
Additional information
A full set of support material will be provided including a comprehensive handout plus copies of the PowerPoint slides.
Delegates are asked to bring a sharpened pencil or a chopstick to the session.
There will be a modest piece of pre-work involving a reading test to establish current reading speed which participants will be asked to complete before attending.
Session Facilitator
The session is led by Miranda Smythe, from the Baikie-Wood Consultancy Ltd, who has 30 years’ experience in writing and developing personal development programmes. Most recently Miranda has developed and presented programmes which focus on chairing online meetings, involving training over 1,000 participants from the public, private and educational sectors in the skills associated with virtual meetings.
In addition to her formal role, Miranda is also involved in local community development activities. She is Chair of a local homelessness charity and has been instrumental in developing and facilitating community leadership programmes in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
