Hitting the Ground Running – a workshop for newly elected councillors
Our Hitting the Ground Running Workshop on 11th July is provided specifically for newly elected councillors. Developed and delivered by East Midlands Councils (EMC) and the Local Government Association (LGA), you will meet both new and experienced councillors from across the region.
The purpose of this introductory session is to highlight the role of the modern councillor, in particular, how you can be effective in your community leadership/ward councillor role and work most effectively with council officers.
An overview of the changing face of local government in the region which includes devolution and Local Government Reform (LGR) will help you to have up to date knowledge and understanding of the landscape and context.
Delivered in an interactive way, through table discussions, activities and information sharing there will be opportunities for questions and learning from experienced councillors and senior regional and national officers.
This workshop is fully subsidised for you as part of your authority membership of EMC. A light buffet lunch is available from 12.30pm with the workshop starting no later than 2.00pm until 4.30pm. There will be a follow up regional workshop available within your first councillor year to provide ongoing continuous support and development.
