Course overview

This course provides a reminder about what you have learned on your previous training, to give you a chance to practise on a simulated case, and to share experiences of any cases that you have completed. We encourage people to contribute to the agenda by inviting you to say what you would like to see during the day. We also make sure to include a slot for the revision of our step-by-step resolution model and a chance for everyone to get some practice on a simulated case. A valuable part of the training is to hear of your experiences of cases that you may have worked on. This gives us a chance to do some live case supervision, which can be a valuable form of ongoing learning in order to develop your skills further.

Course content

This Development Day gives you a lively reminder of what you learned in your initial training and re-boosts your confidence and competence as a practising mediator.

On this course, you will learn how to:

• Revision of the seven-stage model: the purpose of each stage and the skills required
• Skills practice: a reminder of not just what mediators do, but how to do it
• Discussion of learners’ live cases and critical events in cases they have completed
• Tutor feedback, advice, and guidance on best practice and specialist topics
• Analysis of our custom-made video clips: illustrating typical dispute scenarios and how professional mediators would take them on

Delivery

The course is a face-to-face, interactive event, run by a practising mediator who is an expert in the field.  A range of methods are used to deliver the course, including:

• Customised video material
• Lecture and discussion
• Group exercises
• Practice sessions with simulated case material
