A letter was sent to Chief Executives and Council Leaders on 4th August outlining the Afghan Resettlement homelessness referrals process. This process was announced as part of the Enhanced Matching Policy on the 6th May to help speed up families moving out of temporary bridging accommodation to settled accommodation. The new homelessness referral process contains an approach to support a ‘fair share’ of homelessness referrals across the UK for bridging hotel guests that have rejected two appropriate offers of accommodation and have been asked to leave the hotel. Each region across the UK have identified their own ‘fair share’ regional model and councils were initially approached on this on the 12th July. The next meeting with councils including lead officers from Housing and Homeless services is taking place on 10th August.
